Kanyini

Anyone coming cold to the story of Australia's Indigenous disgrace will no longer be ignorant after seeing this beautifully shot film and hearing Uncle Bob tell it the way it is, with such personal passion, political insight, incredible lucidity, dignity and somehow even humour.

- George Negus

My wish...that everyone go see this film. Uncle Bob just tells it like it is. Simply, beautifully and with a light heart. A special film that tells an "open truth" that should have been told a very long time ago.

- Deborah Mailman

On an issue so fraught with guilt and regret, it is wonderfully refreshing to hear Uncle Bob's clear, simple and very important message. It comes from a very generous and patient heart and offers a positive direction for us all to take. Could someone give him the PM's home phone number?

- Claudia Karvan

Kanyini is one of those rare films that not only moved me to tears with its heartbreaking account of what happened to the indigenous people of this land, but also filled me with a great sense of hope. Bob Randall teaches us that to move on from our past, we must first come together. After all, we are all connected. A powerful film told with great dignity and wisdom, and one that should be seen by all Australians.

- Rebecca Gibney

I urge everyone to watch Kanyini. It is entirely compelling and incredibly important. Bob tells his life story with such simplicity, eloquence and awareness. As we watch it, we realise his story is also our story. It is a film that reminds us of the truth of life, as well as the truth of Australia's history. Not just between black and white, but our relationship with all that surrounds us and our tendency to attempt to segregate ' unsuccessfully' time and time again.

- Toni Collette

Some men walk barefoot and lightly on the sand but they leave an unforgettable footprint on our memory. Thank you Uncle Bob for words that will not be blown away by the wind.

- Jeff McMullen

Every Australian inherits the grim & disturbing consequences of the profound cultural collision that occurred with the European invasion of 1788. Our heritage is a community in which indigenous & non-indigenous are divided by cruel inequities, perpetuated by the suppression of a shameful history of deliberate attempts at the annihilation of the indigenous people & their ancient culture. In "Kanyini" Melanie Hogan, helps to redress this denial of our past & through the wit & wisdom of Uncle Bob Randall reminds us of the rich traditions of what is arguably the oldest continuous cultural system in the world.

- Jack Thompson ( Gurkula )

Finally,a documentary that makes sense of such a complex and much neglected issue. Uncle Bob tells it how it really is - no frothy intellectualism just plain fact told in such a spiritual way.

- Susie Porter.

Brilliant. Tells it like it is, how it was and how it should be.

- Joel Edgerton

KANYINI summarises what really happened in the beginning of this country. This is not what I was taught at school. I really can't wait to show it to my daughter.

-Vince Colosimo

Kanyini is a film all Australians should see. The story it tells is ours to share. To learn, to understand, respect and move forward as people of one nation.

- Lisa McCune

I think Kanyini is fantastic. However you came to find Uncle Bob, you did a great job letting him tell his story and the story of all our people's history. I think the movie showed that in listening to our Aboriginal leaders/elders we can learn an awful lot about the state of our nation. It's all in our history of black fella and white man. Uncle Bob takes you on this journey and you can't help but think What if the white man had learnt from these black fellas in the beginning? How would Australia look today? I hope every one else loves Kanyini as much as my family and I do.

- Adam Goodes, Sydney Swans

Kanyini is a proclamation of views, a platform for discussion and encapsulation of one man's beliefs and history which reflect those of his people. It is for the viewer to decide whether they will listen, and think and learn. Or disagree- but they will be forced to think why.

-William McInnes

The combination of its strong, sometimes beautiful, imagery with Uncle Bob's frank and accessible perspective on the story of his people make KANYINI a gift for us all.

-Sigrid Thornton

Before I saw this movie I had been involved in only a couple of experiences involving such quality insight into the devastating past of the Aboriginal experience. I truly believe that after viewing this movie it has given me a feeling so deep and touching that it will be nailed into my mind for the rest of my life. If this movie was shown to someone completely uneducated about Aboriginals then by the end of it they would have a full understanding and feel that they have been treated unfairly and feel the need to express their opinion and help on the journey to justice for the Aboriginal people. This movie is something that every person in Australia should be aware of as it provides a personal insight so moving that you cant move from your seat, its gripping, truthful, powerful, and most of all its the truth.

- Hugh. 15 years old.

Kanyini is simply a great study of a great man. Watch, weep and learn.

- John Doyle

Bob's and Melanie's extraordinary sensitivity and talent have joined forces to create a groundbreaking and beautiful film that has the unique potential to bring non-Indigenous Australians closer to their Indigenous brothers and sisters and to help all of us to understand 'who we are' and 'where we belong'. If a film were ever made to reshape or underwrite the national identity of Australians, KANYINI would be it.

- Marcus Einfeld

I feel that it is so important for young Australians to see this film so they know exactly what has taken place in our history through the 'stolen generation'. Through the eyes of Uncle Bob we are quickly drawn to the issues that Indigenous people face and to a story that is how our Australian history should have been taught in the first place.

- Jude Bolton, Sydney Swans
